PHOTO/VIDEO/ART COMPETITION 2024–25

ASIAN Geographic celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2024, and we’re marking the occasion with the biggest-ever edition of our flagship Images of Asia (IOA) Photo/Video/Art Competition. Enjoyed by readers for the past 16 years, this prestigious contest has attracted amazing entries by both amateur and professional photographers, filmmakers and artists with a singular focus: celebrating the vitality and diversity of Asia.

THEME:

  • Bringing Asia to the World – Celebrate the Vitality and Diversity of Asia

CATEGORIES:

  • Photo of the Year

Shoot Asia in all its glory with your camera. This category applies strictly to compact, mirrorless and SLR cameras. Film cameras may be used, but negatives/slides must be scanned to allow digital submission.

  • Mobile Photo of the Year

Use your smartphone to capture the charms of the Asia from the hip. Any mobile phone device with an in-built camera and any photo app may be used.

  • Drone Photo of the Year

Show a bird’s-eye view of Asia with your drone camera. Any remote-controlled aerial vehicle may be used.

  • Short Film of the Year

Share a story about Asia through moving images. Any device or devices capable of capturing video may be used, including cameras, smartphones, and drones. The total running time, including opening title and closing credits, must not exceed five minutes.

  • Visual Artwork of the Year

Create an artistic work that explores an Asian theme. Any medium is acceptable, including digital, acrylic, watercolour, and mixed media.

 

Submission Deadline

Submissions close on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 23:59PM (GMT+8).

Competition Fees

  • Subscribers to the printed version of ASIAN Geographic get up to three (3) submissions for free. For each additional submission, a US$10 fee will be charged.
  • E-magazine subscribers are charged US$5 per submission, a 50% discount off the regular submission fee.
  • Non-subscribers will be charged a fee of US$10 per submission. If a non-subscriber enters three submissions or more, they will automatically receive a one-year e-magazine subscription free of charge.

General Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions must be self-created original works.
  • The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools is not permitted. These include, but are not limited to, text-to-image or text-to-video generation, generative fill or removal, sky replacement, retouching, etc.
  • Basic image post-processing and video post-production is permitted, including global adjustments such as cropping, straightening, brightening, and increasing contrast and colour saturation; and limited local adjustments such as spot/dust removal. Excessive digital alteration should be avoided.
  • Compositing images is not permitted, whether in camera or in post-processing, and multiple-exposure high dynamic range capture is not permitted.
  • The use of stock images or video, whether licensable or free, is not permitted.

Image/Artwork Specifications

  • Submission: Submit your entry through this portal; physical artworks should be photographed and submitted as images
  • File Format: JPG/JPEG
  • Compression: High Quality (low compression)
  • Colour Mode: RGB
  • Dimensions: 14″/35cm at 300dpi or 4100px in the longest dimension (portrait or landscape)

Video Specifications

  • Submission: Do NOT submit your entry through this portal. Use a file transfer service (WeTransfer/Google Drive/Dropbox) to submit your entry to marketing@asiangeo.com
  • File Format: MOV/MP4 at 1080/30p
  • Duration: Strictly no more than 5 minutes

Entry/Submission Procedure

2. Submit the online entry form (scroll down)
3. Pay your entry fee via the secure PayPal
4. Receive a confirmation email with your submission details

Rules

  • Only photographs taken within Asia as outlined in the United Nations geoscheme for Asia will be eligible for the contest.
  • Photos submitted must not be winning entries of any other competition in the past 6 months.
  • Digital manipulation of photographs other than cropping is disallowed.
  • Asian Geographic Magazines reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not adhere to the stipulated rules and guidelines or are obscene, vulgar, profane, libellous, false and pornographic in nature.
  • Entrants should be the sole producer and owner of the photographs submitted.

 

Additional Rules for Short Films Category:

  • The entrant is responsible for all necessary copyright clearances for material used in their submitted works, and shall fully indemnify the Festival from any damage resulting from copyright infringement lawsuits from other parties.
